Advanced Engine Performance from ASE or BAR approved L1
Alternative within the last 5 years

Air Car I course within the last 2 years
- Clean
Air Car II course within the last 2 years

Update course
- Complete
the application for an EA license and submit a $20 application fee to
BAR.
- Pay
the $45.00 examination fee and pass BAR'S EA technician licensing examination.
- Take
the exam

Renew
EA or EB License:
- If
your license expires in 2009 0r 2010, you need to take the 2009
Smog Check Update class. Click here
for information on this class.
- EA
License must be current (or expired for less than 1 year)
- ASE
or BAR Alternative classes for (A6) Electrical/Electronics,
(A8) Engine Performance and (L1) Advanced Engine Performance must be
current when you renew your license. They usually last for 5 years.
- Submit
an application and $20.00 to the BAR.

The
following summary is from the B.A.R. These other pages go into more detail:
Summary:
To
obtain an EA license, a basic (EB) area technician must meet the following
(most EB technicians will already meet many of these requirements):
- 1.
Complete BAR'S Clean Air Car II course within the last 2 years.
- 2. Be currently certified
in the following courses:
- Electrical/Electronic
systems (already required for EB)
- Engine
performance (already required for EB)
- Advanced
engine performance/emission systems (as of 01/01/02, also req. for
EB) Current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificates in categories
A6, A8 and LI, respectively, may be substituted for completion of
a course or courses.
- 3.
Complete the Smog Check 2009 Update Course.
- 4.
Complete the application for an EA license and submit a $20 application
fee to BAR.
- 5.
Pay the $45.00 examination fee and pass BAR'S EA technician licensing
examination.
