The Basic Skills Lab in room 5115

The Basic Skills Lab is a new lab designed to help support students who want to improve their math skills as well as their writing and editing skills.

Basic Writing Skills:
For students who want to improve their writing at the sentence-level, they can work with tutors on areas of grammar, punctuation, spelling, proofreading and editing. Students can work to find patterns of error in their own writing and to develop their skills through individualized instruction.

How is this different from The Writing & Reading Lab?

The Writing & Reading Lab helps students on their ideas and the content of their essays, emphasizing skills such as: outlining and organizing ideas, developing arguments and using supporting evidence, creating strong thesis statements, and applying critical reading strategies to improve comprehension.

What services does the Basic Skills Lab provide?

* Individualized support from knowledgeable staff and faculty.
* Half-unit credit courses to improve writing and editing skills
* Access to the lab’s resources, including educational software, books, and handouts.

Short Courses Offered for Fall 2008:

* Earn a half-unit (credit/no credit) for each 8-hour module!
