Jump Start is a six-week summer program at Skyline College for junior and senior high school students who have good academic potential but are performing at an "at-risk" level.
Since the summer of 1998, Skyline College has conducted a Jump Start summer program to assist students with basic English, mathematics, study skills, critical thinking, career exploration, and computer technology. The students are from local San Mateo high schools, including El Camino, Capuchino, Oceana, South San Francisco, Terra Nova, and Westmoor.
The goals of the program are to :
(1) Provide a supportive and personal learning environment
(2) Motivate students to be excited about learning explore educational and career opportunities
(3) Learn how to be a successful student, and to expose students to different techniques of teaching in and outside of the classroom.
(4) Help students improve English and mathematical skills
(5) Elevate students' self-esteem as a result of self-awareness and learning
We believe that through the Jump Start Program and other collaborative efforts with our feeder schools, we can encourage, motivate and rekindle students' enthusiasm for learning. For more information contact Félix Pérez, at 650.738.4140.
