CSM Building 5N Design Build Project
Building 5N
Photos Floorplans
Project Description:

Building 5N will be the new home for the Workforce programs, including Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Nursing and Cosmetology, as well as the new home for Wellness and Aquatics. This location, at the south end of the campus near the campus entries, is convenient for the community members who are patrons of these programs. These programs will thrive and grow in this new building, with state of the art equipment and adjacencies to each other that will foster interactions and synergy. The Aquatic Center will be comprised of an Olympic-sized pool and a second pool for competition warm-ups as well as Adaptive Physical Education. This combination of Workforce and Wellness will bring new energy to the southern end of the CSM campus. This new building is targeted to receive LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), demonstrating CSM’s commitment to sustainable building design and construction.

In an effort to attain the LEED silver certification for green design the demolished building concrete will be crushed on site and reused as sub-grade for road and parking upgrades instead of hauling the demolished material off to a landfill and bringing new material on site at a cost to both the college and the environment. Steel reinforcement in the concrete will be salvaged during the crushing process and recycled as well as any other steel or recyclable metals in the building.

The project will use “Cool Roof” technology to reflect as much heat as possible back into the atmosphere to decrease the heat load of the building thus less energy will be needed to cool the building. This technology uses an almost white color for the roof and is made of a material that is conducive to heat loss.
