PROJECT: "The flesh of thy body. . . "

OBJECTIVE:

Using the subject with which you are most familiar, namely your own body, compose interesting images based upon your own observations of how parts and sections of your body appear under differing situations of lighting. The interest is not so much the fact that your own body is the subject matter of the images, but that you were able to make these observations about how to look at the body as an object to be photographed.

REQUIREMENTS AND CONSIDERATIONS:

The images for this project are mainly concerned with composition and the recording of the way lighting can change the perceptions of an object. In this case, the object is your body. If you don't want to use your own body, any human body will do fine.

The photographs are based upon your observations of how different parts of the body can take on new "looks" by the interplay of positions and lighting. Look to find possible images based upon the selective view the camera provides. The most important visual element to consider is composition.

Examine the way different types of lighting can change the look and nature of body parts. See how the same parts look under soft diffused lighting or strong direct lighting. Analyze the effect of different colored lights have on the perceptions of the body Parts. Consider incorporating shadows and silhouettes. Play with colors and different types of textures of clothing or other props.

Your images may be super sharp, or totally out of focus. The subject can be blurred or distorted. Anything goes, as long as it appears you know what you are doing and there seems to be reason for the effects used. Your image composition may be very tight and precise, or it may be very loose and free-flowing. Or something in between, all would be acceptable.

It is not necessary to be able to tell what part or section of the body is actually photographed. Just make an interesting image from what you see of the body as an object.

Submit at least three (3) different image ideas. The images need not be of the same person, nor about similar ideas. Some may be serious, others off the wall. Exercise you imagination.
