Compression Applications

 

Locate or Install a Compression / Decompression Application

Modern operating systems include an application that will decompress and compress files. Most browsers will also compress folders when sent as an attachment. 

 

blue arrow    Test your system.  Use yourMult101-WebReady folder with existing files from Lesson 4 in it.  (WebReadyFlyer.doc/rtf/txt)

    1. Right-click  or control-click (Mac & PC) your Mult101-WebReady folder  to open the contexual menu.
    2. Examine the options in the menu.  Does one option say "Compress" or "Create Archive"?
    3. If so, select the compression option and try it out.  (You will not lose the original folder.)

 

Windows XP & Vista include a decompression and compression application. 

Macintosh OSX   10.4 (Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard) include a decompression and compression application.

Applications for Compressing Files

Finding the trial version always takes some time to find.  It's often at the bottom or in tiny print.  Use "Find" in your browser to help you search for "trial" on the page .
