Course Description:
   A continuation of Chinese 111, with further development of the skills of listening,
   speaking, reading, writing and basic grammar. (UC / CSU)

Course Content and Student Learning Outcomes:
   Instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the topics of making
   appointment, studying Chinese, school life, shopping, transportation.

   Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
   Speaking: Conduct oral communications, produce accurate pronunciation and
   intonation.
   Listening: Understand short dialogues, narratives on daily life situations introduced in
   the textbook and supplementary material.
   Reading: Comprehend different format of simple reading texts on personal and social
   matters. Use basic reading strategies to identify categories, main ideas,
   organizations, and specific details.
   Writing: Write traditional characters, comprehend co-relational simplified characters.
   Employ basic sentence structures and vocabulary, produce coherent paragraphs,
   dialogues, and letters.

Computer Equipment Requirement:

   Minimum requirements are:
   A current browser such as Internet Explorer, FireFox

   At least 512 MB RAM
   Modem speed: 56K or high speed Internet is recommended
   Microphone and speaker or headset
   *Computers are available in the library, FL Center, or other campus resource centers.

Software Maybe Needed for This Course:          
   Chinese language package for Windows
   Integrated Chinese Level I Part I Audio CD
   NJStar communicator or Google Pinyin (PC and MAC)
*You could use the above software at Foreign Language Center at Bldg. 18-112.
 
Assignments Submission:
   Assignments will be both online and hand written. Students are expected to submit
   assignments on time to receive full credit. Late submission will receive partial credit.
                                                                                                 
Final Examination:
   The final examination will be comprehensive oral and written exams covering the
   lessons taught in the textbook. Students need to be on campus to take the final oral
   and written exams.

   Dishonesty such as cheating, plagiarism, or knowingly furnishing false
   information to the College and its officials is prohibited and may lead to
   appropriate disciplinary action.

Grading Policy:
   The final grade will be based on the following:
     a. Completion of homework and assignments on time  60%
     b. Final exam  40%
