Writing is an excellent way of expressing yourself, especially when it is centered on creativity. In this class you will use your creativity to improve your skills as a writer. We will cover grammar usage and sentence structure and focus on writing descriptively through stimulating activities. You will be more prepared for the upcoming school year!

Fun with Photography - top of page

Make a photo without a camera? Shoot in the dark without a flash? Why do we throw a picture into really hot water? In this hands-on digital and film photography class, you will have fun with metering, composition and understanding the camera’s menus and modes while exploring these concepts through still-life, portraiture, outdoor shooting, printing and alternative processes. A camera is not required but bring it if you have one.

Learn to play the guitar and impress your family and friends with chords and songs you learned. Must bring a guitar (guitars can be rented at local music stores).

Design and develop a movie as a class, starting with the storyboard, and ending with a CD. Learn and practice all the steps necessary to build the animated story from the storyboard.

Acting/Improvisation - top of page

Up on your feet and act out those stories and zany characters in your head! You will learn to communicate characters through their movements, rhythms, objectives and relationships to each other. You will improvise stories, fracture fairy tales, and play and perform with others, learning how to access your imaginations in a spontaneous and confident way. Learn valuable “partnering” tools in small and larger groups to create a sense of space and character through pantomime activities. Come away from this class with fun acting and improvisation skills and greater self-confidence, poise and ease with yourself and others.

Costume and Set Design - top of page

This popular class starts with a story or fable drawn from Greek myths or hero tales, Jewish folklore, or international fairy and folk tales. You will analyze the story, and draw sketches from your analysis of themes, character or setting, learn perspective and figure drawing and assemble a portfolio of your sketches. You will eventually design costumes and sets for the story of your choice and present a production concept from your classroom sketches and swatches.

Explore the fine arts, drawing, painting and sculpture. Have fun creating exciting projects that range from charcoal sketching, color theory, watercolors and 3-D projects include funky recycle art, a simple pop-up book, metal tooling and more. You will be guided through the basics of each creative lesson. No prior art experience required.

Explore the excitement of using GPS receivers to navigate, measure speed and distance, find hidden stashes, draw and play games. Learn the fundamentals of marking waypoints and finding locations and set up scavenger hunts on our lovely campus, make puzzles that can only be solved by finding clues and location. Learn how to geocache and play our versions of geoDashing, geoArt and geoGolf. Find coordinates on Google earth, change coordinate formats, download and upload tracks and waypoints and you have got the perfect technical/physical combination!

Alternative Energy Engineering - top of page

Combining engineering and alternative energy, you will build solar power cars that race under the sun; a fuel cell car that runs on water, generate power with a windmill and operate cranes, drawbridges, etc. using alternative energy sources. Learn the basics of electricity and experiment with a multimeter to measure continuity, resistance and voltage from small circuits with batteries and solar panels. Take a first step to stopping global warming.
