General Education Requirements
A. Residence
Either 48 units of the 60 units required or the last 12 units must be
completed at CSM.
B. Scholarships
A minimum GPA of 2.0 in the last 60 units, and a minimum grade point average
of 2.0 in courses taken at CSM and submitted as part of the 60 units.
C. Competency
1. Math/Quantitative Reasoning
For CIS majors, this requirement is satisfied by MATH 120 (CIS Certificate
Program) or MATH 251 (CIS Transfer Program).
2. English
For CIS majors, this requirement is satisfied by ENGL 100.
C. Major
This requirement is fulfilled by following the requirements for the Computer
Support Specialist Certificate or the CIS Transfer Program.
E. General Education
1. American History and Institutions, California State and Local Government
See the Catalog for details. One example for completing this requirement is
to take PLSC 210, American Politics (3 units) and HIST 310, California
History (3 units).
2. Language and Rationality
Two courses of 3 units each are required. One of these can be the ENGL 100
course required for the CIS major. See the Catalog for details.
3. Health Science
Two units of health science are required. See the Catalog for details.
4. Physical Education
Students must complete two semester-long activity courses in PE or Dance.
The two courses may not be taken in the same semester. This requirement is
waived for those holding college degrees, evening students, veterans, and
those with specific medical waivers. See the Catalog for details.
5. Additional Requirements
Students must complete coursework in all four areas, with at least 3 units
from each area. ELEC 110 (CIS Certificate Program) will fulfill the Natural
Science area and CIS 110 (CIS Certificate Program) can fulfill the Career
Exploration area. Students must also complete courses in the Social Sciences
(ECON 100, for example) and in the Humanities (PHIL 100, for example). See
